[ Samsung SDS New Jersey Data Center ]

New Jersey data center keeps sales activity database of Samsung Electronics, and checks the attendance of 5,000 Samsung employees in the North American continent: the data piles created each day are equivalent to 100,000 letter sized papers.

New Jersey data center has no semblance to busy Samsung factories; it is a compact three story building in the middle of greens, yet it is where all activities in Samsung group are getting started. Samsung group¡¯s IT infrastructure including ERP, CRM, SCM and RDW that facilitate Samsung¡¯s global management is initiated from New Jersey data center. Dongseok Kim, managing director at Samsung SDS, says, ¡°NJ data center is the spine and backbone of Samsung group¡¯s global management strategies.¡±

About 150 servers are continuously blinking with blue lights in the computing center, to which unauthorized accesses are completely denied, recording Samsung¡¯s business activities across the American continent. Since its opening in 2000, processed information in the data center has been shared among 6 different data centers worldwide including Seoul, Gwacheon and Gumi data centers in Korea via 45~155 Mbps Internet network real time. Thanks to the state-of-the-art technologies applied in those data centers, employees in Samsung Seoul Headquarters can look at the procurement, shipping and production performances around the globe with one click from their PCs.

Kyu-seong Lee, vice president at Samsung SDS says, ¡°the Internet enables real time monitoring of global operation, undreamt of about 10 years ago.¡± It can also be translated into a far shortened time when it comes to the establishment of global management strategies.

The Internet also facilitates the implementation of organizational operation systems. For example, Samsung¡¯s corporate portal site ¡°Mysingle¡± provides access to daily tasks, work performance evaluation and work manuals for Samsung employees worldwide. One Samsung employee boasts that foreign employees with varied level of capabilities can present at least a certain level or above productivity. Mysingle relieves the burden of performance management out of managers as well.

Samsung Global IT management system has already become the benchmark target for competitors. One Samsung SDS staff adds that Sony, GE and other foreign competitors are implementing similar IT management infrastructure and recently, LG Group has sent a delegation to SDS US Data center in an effort to implement its global management computing network.
