Title
uniSURVEY, HPMS Data collection system for UDOT

Salt Lake City, Utah (June 30, 2002)

The Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) was developed in 1978 as a national highway transportation system database. It includes limited data on all public roads, more detailed data for a sample of the arterial and collector functional systems, and certain summary information for urbanized, small urban and rural areas. The HPMS replaced numerous uncoordinated annual State data reports as well as biennial special studies conducted by each State.

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has been seeking an automated data collection system as an alternate to the time-consuming, high-cost method of manual surveying. Samsung SDS America introduced their automated data collection system, uniSURVEY, to UDOT. On June 30, Samsung SDS America and UDOT started a project for providing customized uniSURVEY software and equipment as an inventory collection system for HPMS.

Through this project, UDOT will equip their vehicles with state-of-the art automated data collection systems and Samsung SDS America will expand its business area into the DOT market.
